Springtime Sojourns: Essential Travel Tips for Your Seasonal Escapes

What do you think of when you think of spring? Some people think of bunny rabbits and pastel-colored candies while others may think of cleaning out closets and messy drawers. For many, spring marks the beginning of travel for the year. You may be heading out on a spring break getaway or beginning to plan that summer vacation for the family.  No matter what your destination, it’s important to be prepared. Here are some helpful tips to ensure your travel experience is as smooth as the spring breeze.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Do your research about your destination before you go. This includes planning hotels, transportation, and even restaurants. Read travel guides, travel websites and the reviews. Friends and family who have been to your destination before you are also a great resource. If you have a medical condition, keep a list of local contacts like hospitals or pharmacies and check the availability of your medical supplies in the region. The better prepared you are, the easier it is to enjoy your experience.

RESPECT FOR YOUR LOCATION: If English is not the local language, learn and practice some basic phrases like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. If you have a smart phone, apps like Google Translate can be used to translate speech as it is heard or even to speak a phrase for you. It’s also important to respect local customs such as dress code and tipping at restaurants.

NOTIFY PEOPLE: Call your credit card company to let them know your card will be used in a different location. If you go international, call your mobile carrier to arrange for service in case of emergencies. Tell your loved ones what your plans are so they know when you are leaving and when you will be home.

BE FLEXIBLE: Nothing ever goes exactly as you have planned so it’s important to be able to adapt to whatever situation arises. Always have a plan for emergencies. Know where your essential items are at all times and have a clear idea of how to get help if needed.

PACK YOUR BAGS: This one is often easier said than done! Comfortable walking shoes, layers that can be added or removed as temperatures change and versatile items that can be worn in different ways are great strategies for packing smart and not overdoing it. Remember certain airlines have weight limitations on checked bags so be mindful of potential airline restrictions to avoid extra fees at the gate. You might want to leave a little room in your bag or even tuck away a smaller empty bag for those souvenirs on the return voyage!

DON’T FORGET YOUR LASERTOUCHONE! Travel is fun and exciting but long days on your feet and hauling heavy suitcases can take a toll on your body. Bring your LaserTouchOne to help keep you going – it’s lightweight, portable and easy to add to any purse, backpack or carry-on. Here are some tips for traveling with your device if you go by air:

  1. The LaserTouchOne must go in your carry-on bag. Since it contains a lithium-ion battery, you cannot pack your device in your checked suitcase. Don’t worry, there’s no issue sending it through security screening at the airport.
  2. The 5oz gel tube must be packed in your checked suitcase since it’s larger than the 3.4oz/100ml limit. Squeezing some gel into a smaller container is a good idea if you are bringing your suitcase with you on the plane.
  3. If you go international, charge your device at home before you go. The charge on a LaserTouchOne can last weeks – unless you plan on going for an extended trip. For short trips, you can leave the charger at home (less to carry!) and you won’t have to worry about a converter.

Whether you plan your trip around full days of non-stop sightseeing or prefer to snooze on a chair by the pool or ocean, travel is always an adventure. Plan ahead, prepare well, and don’t forget to soak in the beauty and excitement of your destinations. After all, the best tip is to just have fun!
